Rezoning approved, despite protest

The Rockingham County Planning Board approved a rezoning request, by a 5-3 vote, for a new subdivision at the intersection of Bethany and Moore roads despite more than a dozen people who came out against the development.

Planning board member Anthony Brown abstained.

The property up for rezoning was a 25-acre tract just north of the new Bethany Elementary School in the southwestern part of Rockingham County. Ken Ferguson, owner of Ken Ferguson Construction Co., said he plans to build 15 homes on 15 lots. Ferguson said the homes would be designed with a minimum of 1,600 square feet, not including planned two-stall attached garages.

"Our purpose is to build homes $180,000 to $220,000," Ferguson said. "No modular, track or mobile homes. We plan to build custom stick-built homes that will be an asset to the county."

Moore Road, a power line and a 150-foot utility easement all cut through the property at different angles, creating difficulties in forming the residential lots.

Slowdown prompts modular home company layoffs

CLAREMONT, N.H. The housing slowdown in New England has prompted a modular home company in Claremont (New Hampshire) to lay off workers and close one plant.

Customized Structures Incorporated laid off 23 of its 200 employees and will close a factory in the city. C-E-O Richard Krant said the company will operate entirely out of a second plant in Claremont.

With the number of building permits and new homes dropping, Krant said the company had to make adjustments.

EPC Gen2 Ready and New ``Bad Tag'' Reject

The ID Technology RFID Reject Module can be used with all ID Technology 250 tamp-blow printer applicators.

The 250r, ID Technology's RFID printer applicator, reads, writes and verifies RFID tags prior to printing and dispensing the tag/label onto a tamp pad for automatic application of the tag/label to a case or carton. If the RFID tag cannot be verified, the reject module's plate moves in front of the tamp pad and the "bad" tag/label is blown onto the reject plate, which then returns to the home position. When the RFID plate becomes full of "bad" tags, a beacon is illuminated. An output is also available for customer use.

The IDT 250r printer applicator features the same modular component configuration as the original IDT 250 Series printer applicator, as well as, "hot swap" spare assemblies that install in minutes.

Spirit Cabins Introduces New Twist on Traditional Log Cabin Living

Boulder, CO (PRWEB via PRWeb) October 26, 2006 -- Attendees at the recent Log Home & Timber Frame Expo in Denver were among the first to see a full-scale model of the Ponderosa, one of the exclusive modular cabin designs now available from Spirit Cabins. This innovative collection has been receiving great interest from buyers looking for high quality, attractively priced vacation homes, studios and guest cottages.

Early arrivals at the home show were treated to an unrehearsed, real-time demonstration as the log cabin arrived at the show grounds and one construction manager led a team of enthusiastic but inexperienced volunteers to quickly transform it into a comfortable home, complete with a front porch, cozy lighting and cool drinks in the fridge for guests. Soon visitors were filing through, admiring the real dormer windows, custom finishes, solid hardwood cabinets and pine doors imported from Finland -- and few left without a catalog.

A valuable guide to factory-built homes

Starting with a short history of the more than 75,000 Sears Roebuck kit homes built between 1908 and 1940, this book explains the pros and cons of today's factory-built homes.

Binsacca explains that there are many choices and sources for customizing these new homes. Looking at the many photos throughout the book, readers would never know most of these houses started out on a factory assembly line.

This step-by-step book shows home buyers how to investigate and compare catalog designs, manufactured and modular homes, kit or lumberyard suppliers, and on-site assembly of components. There is also brief information on mortgage finance sources and options.

This new book opens wide the door of affordability to prospective home buyers, especially those desiring to build in a rural or retirement area away from city or suburban housing.

Amega ordered to suspend sales, pay $10,000 fine

The Ashland-based manufactured home dealer, Amega Sales Inc., was ordered last week to suspend all sales activity for 20 days and pay a $10,000 fine.

The Missouri Public Service Commission approved the agreement between the PSC's staff, Amega Sales Inc. and Amega's president, Greg DeLine. The agreement requires the dealer to be closed for all sales business for 20 days, starting Tuesday. In addition, the dealer will pay a $10,000 penalty to the Public School Fund. The PSC staff, through its Director of Manufactured Housing and Modular Units Program, filed a complaint against Amega alleging the dealer sold a home that had a prohibitive sale notice, a violation of PSC rules.Specifically, the complaint alleged the dealer sold a home claiming it was a new home, even after the PSC's Manufactured Housing and Modular Units Program had placed a prohibitive sale notice on the home, informing Amega the home could not be sold as new.During the closure, there is to be no contact with potential customers and Amega must post a clear notice the Ashland lot will be closed. The dealer also is prohibited from steering customers to other sales lots owned by DeLine or Amega affiliates. In addition, the agreement prohibits Amega and its affiliates from selling any new manufactured home that does not have a HUD (Housing and Urban Development) label and data plate as required by law.It also requires Amega and its affiliates to notify the PSC Manufactured Housing and Modular Units Program whenever it receives any manufactured home that doesn't have the HUD label, which is required for the home to be sold to the consumer.

Getting into the mood

Take a stroll through a Canadian Tire store, and you'll see how friendly the giant retailer has become with celebrity designer Debbie Travis.

The line of Travis-branded home decor products has expanded to include new tabletop and decor accessories, bathroom fixtures and lampshades. But perhaps the most significant addition is a line of affordable modular furniture that homeowners can customize to suit a room's function and their own storage needs.

Each piece comes in a maple-coloured laminate finish, which can be painted to match any of the four "moods" into which Travis divides her collection. Prices start at about $40 for a one-door cube. There are also occasional items, such as the solid-wood serving cart ($129), designed for the "Nostalgic" mood. For more information, go to http://www.canadiantire.ca.
