Hanging in Derrick Copeland's Technology Drive office is a framed newspaper article about Applied Data Trends. It includes a photo of Copeland sitting at his desk, holding his daughter, Amelia, then 3 months old. Such a scene was common in those days, in 1998, when many of the then-3-year-old firm's 45 staffers worked mostly from computers set up in their homes. Today, ADT fills the third floor of Technology Place near Cummings Research Park. The work force has more than doubled, reaching 100 employees this year. ADT was named Small Business of the Year in the Technology category by the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce last year. In August, Copeland was named Entrepreneur of the Year by the chamber. Copeland now has a corner office, complete with a conference table and projector screen, but the photo and article on the wall remind him of what's most important: enjoying what you do.

But at this point, they are just hoping to keep the current arrangement in place through the end of the school year. .
A new home purchase and rehabilitation program was approved last week by the Angels Camp City Council, and city officials say this program will be different from a previous one that generated little interest. The HOME Investment Partnership Program offers low rates and long-term loans for those hoping to buy their first home, as well as present homeowners whose houses need extensive repairs. Councilmen approved participation in the program on a 3-0 vote with Mayor William Hutchinson and Councilman Norm Price absent. Angels Camp was awarded $800,000 through the California Department of Housing and Community Development, providing about $671,000 to actually be loaned out, said Lorie Ann Adams, from California Engineering Company, Inc. of Yuba City. Adams explained the program and its guidelines to council members during their regular meeting Oct.
