Cascade County will soon clean up the defunct Home Place property at 4300 2ndAve. N., a county official said Wednesday. Deputy County Attorney Greg Bonilla said that the owners of the property have agreed to allow the county to clean it up without spending time serving them with legal documents. .
The Varna Community Association will once again play host to the Kids Halloween Fun Night from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at the community center at 943 Dryden Road in Varna. The event will bring back the Haunted Hayride along with apple bobbing, pumpkin decorating, cookie decorating. When campaigning in any of Hunterdon County's 26 towns, candidates for the Board of Freeholders say they have a hard time escaping the one issue gripping residents across the county. "Taxes are on everyone's mind," said Matthew Holt, a former Clinton Town mayor who is running as a Republican for one of two seats on the board. "I know it sounds like a broken record, but, frankly, that's what you get hit with all the time." As state lawmakers continue to grapple with ways to reduce the nation's highest property tax rates, Hunterdon candidates are positing their own ideas to alleviate the burden on taxpayers. Sharing services Holt and Republican freeholder candidate Ron Sworen, who is currently in his 11th year as the mayor of Frenchtown, say promoting shared services throughout Hunterdon's local governments and school systems is paramount to reducing costs in the county.
