  Manufacturer shifting work to Cherryville

A modular home company will move at least 275 jobs from Denver to Cherryville as part of a shift in manufacturing operations, company officials announced Wednesday.

The company, R-Anell Homes, plans to start the move in December, consolidating all manufacturing in a 237,000-square-foot plant on Anthony Grove Road in Cherryville.

The company's 210,000- square-foot plant at 3549 N.C. 16 in Denver would need "serious remodeling" to remain productive, R-Anell President Dennis Jones said in a statement.

R-Anell will shift between 275 and 325 jobs from Denver to Cherryville, Jones said.

Established in 1972, R-Anell is privately owned and was named Lincoln County's Industry of the Year in 2003. The company bought the Cherryville site in 1996.

College Station residents seeking a long-term vision

College Station residents said Thursday they'd like to see the city staff, elected officials and appointed board members implement a long-term vision and be willing to take risks to plan for future growth.

The discussion came out of several focus group meetings on the city's comprehensive plan Thursday.

The meetings were limited to 20 residents, so each person would have an opportunity to participate, according to Senior Planner Jennifer Prochazka, who is managing the project for the city. The sessions were devoted to such topics as historic preservation, transportation, growth management and land use. Another round of focus groups is set for Friday.

Electrograph Banks Future on RevolutionHD, Acquisitions

Electrograph Systems is really taking value-added service seriously. The $650-million company recently announced it has spruced up its house brand of flat panels and is publicly stating its plans to continue aggressive growth through acquisitions of other distributors.

At a press conference in New York City, the company announced that it will discontinue its current Electrograph brand of TVs in favor of RevolutionHD, a line of high-performance LCDs and plasmas being manufactured by an unnamed company in the Far East.

Among the features for the 32-, 37-, 42- and 46-inch LCD displays and 42- and 50-inch plasma displays are enhanced 1080i video processing, a built-in tuner, PC and HDTV compatibility, RS-232 control, split-screen picture-in-picture, portrait/landscape mounting and calibration controls that include an embedded Imaging Science Foundation (ISF) menu that will allow integrators to calibrate the units using an ISF disc.

Local fireman's bravery earns state and local recognition

Volunteer fireman Mike Shrout risks his life to help others because that's what he does, not for the glory that follows.

During an open house held during Fire Safety Week in Fulton, Shrout was presented with the State Fire Marshals Lifesaving Award and an Award of Valor - two of the highest recognitions a fireman can receive.Shrout doesn't believe his actions deserve special honor. Following the presentation, the 25-year fire veteran said, “The award means a lot to me, but I don't feel I did anything that any other firefighter would not have done. That's what we do."Shrout was recommended for the awards for the “selfless action" he took this March in saving the life of a Fulton woman, who was trapped in the basement of her collapsed, tornado-ravaged home.According to Central Fire District Protection reports, the newly built modular home was lifted off its foundation and had caved in and split in two with homeowner Joyce King trapped under the debris. Her husband Lawrence - who had escaped and crawled to a neighbor's house for help - also was injured.
