JACKSON - The Legislature on Thursday passed a modular-housing tax cut aimed at Katrina recovery, with lawmakers clocking their personal best time getting in and out of the Capitol for a special session - two hours. The cut from 7 percent to 3 percent on modular homes, pushed by Gov. Haley Barbour, had died in an August special legislative session, with House leaders letting it languish in committee without a vote. Barbour, angered over the House move, which he said would cost modular-home buyers an extra $4,000 to $6,000 in taxes and limit Coast homeowners' rebuilding options, forced lawmakers back into session Thursday. On Thursday, the full House voted 113-1 in favor of the tax cut. The Senate passed it unanimously, as it did in August. "The people of Mississippi, especially those on the Coast, thank you," House Speaker Billy McCoy, D-Rienzi, told House members after their vote.

ADA/CASCADE: Dan Behm, Forest Hills' new superintendent, received high praise in the first of four quarterly job performance evaluations he requested when he took over the district's top job in July. Board of Education members praised Behm for his efforts to learn the district's culture and for meeting with all administrators as well as some parent groups. They also gave him high marks for showing trust in his staff by appointing them to several administrative vacancies. While board members said during the superintendent search they wanted one with a doctoral degree, they suggested that Behm, who was married shortly after joining Forest Hills, pace the use of his spare time. The Louisiana Department of Economic Development has a plan for solving the state's housing crisis and creating a new signature industry for Louisiana: Turn the state into a hub for new construction technologies and building methods. Luring construction-related industries and manufacturing has become a major priority for the state. The idea is that by looking to advanced building methods, the state can more quickly rebuild the 200,000 homes that were damaged or destroyed in Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and give Louisiana workers a leg up on developing modern construction skills. "We've been working with housing manufacturers of many types and encouraging them to consider investing in Louisiana," said Don Pierson, assistant secretary of economic development and head of the office of business development.

We are very busy at the moment. WBS - which is based in Coalisland - has five operating divisions covering modular buildings, modular homes and timber framed buildings, property development, windows, and roofing. All divisions are working at capacity at the moment and turnover has seen a steady increase over the years. We have just completed one of the largest high specification off-site construction projects in Ireland at Crumlin Hospital in Dublin. This involved the building of two new specialist medical facilities in the form of an MRI nuclear medicine facility and a haematology and oncology unit. ANY EXCITING PROJECTS IN THE PIPELINE? At present the window business is expanding with the introduction of a new aluminium profile system to the company, which will complement our PVC range.
