  Altien Simplifies ECM for IBM

Now knowledge workers have a new option in the realm of enterprise document management. Altien Document Manager (ADM), a DM product that works across major Enterprise CMS platforms, now connects with the IBM WebSphere Information Integrator Content Edition (IICE) platform.

Altien and IBM are working together to address the challenge of enterprise document management adoption and usage.

Altien Document Manager (ADM) is a product suite for document & records management built on the FileNet P8 platform. In a massive deal announced in August of this year, FileNet was acquired by IBM and the two companies products are now being actively aligned.

"Our customers can now implement a migration path toward a common ECM infrastructure and away from legacy repositories over time and without disrupting their users," said Jason Hirst, CEO of Altien, explaining the benefits of the integration move.

Help save energy within your home with Smart House

For every £3 we spend on heating our homes, £1 is immediately wasted through poor energy efficiency. Turning the thermostat down one degree could save households around £49 a year. Switching off unused lights could save around £32 a year and turning appliances off at the switch instead of leaving them on standby could save around £38 per year (DEFRA/ Energy Saving Trust 2005 data).

With the dramatic increase in environmental awareness and the advances in cost-effective technologies, energy efficiency is fast becoming a key design element in both homebuilding and property renovation projects.

Smart House has a positive impact on energy usage by providing better control of heating, cooling and lighting within the home. In unoccupied rooms, heating and cooling can be reduced, and lights can be turned off depending on information from motion sensors.

Letters to the Editor

Hardly a week goes by where one of the Churches is traveling miles to Katrina. To help repair the damage down there. They are doing it in the name of Jesus to show Christian love; spending their own money helping people they don't even know.

There is one couple, which bought a modular home some fifteen years ago.

The couple that they bought the home from put it in the wrong place on their property. For all the winters there has been- water under their house since the wrong placement. (Now they need a permanent cement foundation to go around the whole house to stop the water.) To the homeowners surprise the owners they bought the house from where the same church sales people went. The owner did as the Bible said to do and went to the Church to get the problem fixed. The Leaders didn't want to get involved.

The Return of the 3D Crystal Ball

A true 3D display has been a dream of many for years. Although various three-dimensional technologies have been developed in recent years, few are able to display real time 3D images and video from any angle in the same way an object would appear to us in the real world. This article will present one such technology called Perspecta and explore its current and future capabilities and uses.

About four years ago, I reviewed a fascinating display called the Perspecta Spatial 3-D System, which was developed by the Massachusetts-based company Actuality Systems. Perspecta is a true three-dimensional display that allows users to view moving objects from any angle with the unaided eye, simply by walking around them as you would if you were looking at real 3D objects.

CARLSBAD Â- Allison Crouch says she's tired of having to move. Twice recently, Crouch and her children have found out their landlord plans to sell the home they had been renting. Rent has been costly, homes are scarce, and each successive search for a new residence has been more difficult. "I'm just having a really hard time," said Crouch, who works at New Mexico State University- Carlsbad. "There are lots of other people like me, I am sure." Rent has skyrocketed to around $800 a month, Crouch said, and she is currently unable to afford or locate suitable lodging for herself and her children. Organizations like Habitat for Humanity and the Department of Housing and Urban Development can only help so many people. "We need some more community awareness about this. I'm not the only one in this situation," she said.

Revolution hailed but City warned of a looming fight for supremacy

It was 20 years ago today, and Britain was facing groundbreaking change. The Australian soap Neighbours stormed the nation's television screens, the BBC launched its One O'Clock News programme - and the City of London was rocked by "Big Bang".

Electronic trading systems were switched on and the secluded cabal of privately owned firms that dominated City share dealing was smashed. The old-fashioned way of dealing, head to head on a sweaty trading floor in the stock exchange, was halted overnight.

Northeast Landing targets 'middle-of-road' home buyers

Local builder Joseph E. Rhodes Jr. made his name on the Outer Banks. But the Elizabeth City native says Pasquotank County is the place to be.

Rhodes is in the process of building a 49-home residential development off Northside Road, near Main Street Extended. The development, called Northeast Landing, is funded by a group of Outer Banks investors, Prairie Dog LLC, whose managing partner is William Rowland Thorp.

Some of the projects Rhodes has finished on the Outer Banks include the Pelican Watch subdivision, just north of the Kitty Hawk Pier, Grace Lutheran Church in Nags Head, the animal hospital in Manteo, and several custom waterfront homes.

But as the market on the Outer Banks starts to flatten out, Rhodes says he's contemplating a move back home.
